Opening rant

These first posts soon disappear under layers more recent material, so this an opportunity for some incongruous explorations, which I might be more restrained about later.

We live in interesting times. Despite all the crisis and upheavals since WWII, the basic structures of the world remained fairly stable until the year 1989. Then the Communist word begun to unravel, but still, we had the security that the lone remaining superpower tightly held the reins, thoughtfully policed all the little rogue entities littering the planet, and presented itself as a moral leader, a shining light for all to emulate. Well, almost.

All that security is gone. The US and the West are plummeting, out of control, towards a moral, economic, cultural, environmental, political, and "you name it" disaster. Hasn't it always appeared to be like this? Actually, no. What we had before was a slow build, the gathering up of all the elements to make this present situation possible. Since perceptions of time from our stationary, fixed "nows" are relative and subjective, careering down a slippery slope, as we are now, seems to last for ever. What makes this ride increasingly curious is the seeming indifference of the the passengers in the stricken vehicle. This apathy, the indifference to the real dangers facing us is most evident in the the most significant, and most affected society: in the United States.

Today the US is fighting three wars.Military spending has reached unheard of heights. The country's population is being sharply divided into the rapidly ascending mega-rich and the befuddled, rapidly sinking newly poor.Corporatism is nudging electoral democracy aside. The media , like the media of Nazi or Soviet times, has taken upon itself self-censorship. The social safety net is being whipped away from the most needy. Paranoias in the form of organized religion stereotype and condemn each other (well, nothing new here), and the arts are being submerged in populism, doodliness, and repetition.

My opening rant.

To be continued...

Glad I got this of my chest.

Must try not to be so awful in my next post.

Connecting

Here, for my record, and for anyone who might be interested, is a rambling about issues that concern me, which I have not covered in my other blogs. Those three (!) focus on art at http://ryszardwasilewski.blogspot.com/ and http://nextblogpot.blogspot.com/
and on writing at  http://furtherissuesandbeyond.blogspot.com/.
I have not posted anything anywhere for a long time -- I plan to be back in business from now.
